There is no doubt about influence of the quality of power supply on the sound quality. Listening tests have proved it that the most sensible to sound distortions are signal sources, namely: CD players and CD transports, pre-amps, tuners and D/A converters. From time to time the power receivers of both extremely high power consumption and impulse consumption character are fed from the municipal or local power plants, contaminating the power net with all possible distortions and noise.
However, sometimes, all of us have experienced an inexplicable sound quality improvement while listening to music in the evening or on weekends when these receivers are switched off. Hence the popularity of power lines, conditioners or exotic power cables. They are but a partial, although costly, solution. More often than not, they do not filter or correct the shape or stabilize the voltage. Very few stabilizers, in turn, operates on an pulse basis inducing additional high frequency noise. Here is typical mains voltage waveform:
and mains voltage spectrum:
All this resulted in uncompromising construction – The First Generator, as it is the first unit of this sort on the audio market. The generator is run from the means and the output voltage is being created from the beginning. An ideal sinusoid is produced with the Line Oscillator of negligible distortions. Here is output voltage waveform of First Generator with 70 VA load:
and output voltage spectrum of First Generator with 70 VA load:
The frequency is 80 Hz which significantly influences the sound quality. When compared to 50 Hz the capacitors of audiophile power supplies are fed frequently with smaller electric current. Similarly, power transformers cores works with smaller induction flux hence the generated distortions and the level of ripple is significantly lower.
Power stage is completely a linear one and does not generate its own distortions. It delivers energy to three output sockets which are separated by three independent transformers. The connected units do not influence one another. The way the generator operates is almost ideal. It protects the equipment from voltage spikes, stabilizes the voltage, creates always an ideal sinusoid, separates the units from each other. The only limitation is a comparatively small power output, namely 70 VA. For this reason it is mandatory to connect signal sources to low current output sockets. The generator is designed to enable an amplifier to be run from two sockets of total 3200 VA that acts as high – end power line.
The First Generator is the power center for any high-end sound system. Additionally, another unique solution has been implemented. It is the ability to switch off the amps by signal source. It is possible to do so because the power consumption by signal sources is smaller in a stand-by mode. Switching of modes is regulated which, in turn, enables switching on amps to be done by any source which is connected to the outermost socket.
The First Generator has been tested in many an audiophile system both valve and solid state ones as well as budget and price no object systems. The conclusion is always the same: this is an indispensable of any music system.
